Sadowara, dissolved municipality in Miyazaki district, Miyazaki prefecture, Japan

Sadowara was a small town in Miyazaki Prefecture located in the Miyazaki District, covering about 57 square kilometers (22 square miles) of land. The area was mostly flat with gentle hills and close to the coast, featuring quiet streets, small parks, and traditional shops that served the local community.

The village was founded in 1889 and renamed a town in 1896 as it grew from rural farming and fishing communities. In 2006 it merged with neighboring towns Tano and Takaoka to become part of the larger city of Miyazaki.

The area was known for flying whale-shaped streamers during festivals, a custom similar to traditional carp streamers. These traditions symbolized good luck and hope, and residents continue to take pride in this cultural practice.

The site is now part of Miyazaki city and can be explored through local stories, murals, and festival traditions that reflect its past. The flat terrain with quiet streets and small parks makes it easy to walk around and experience the area at a leisurely pace.

Residents had a special connection to local markets and parks where families gathered and visitors were welcomed with stories about the town's history. These places served as social gathering points that reinforced community bonds rather than just recreational spaces.
