Kara-Buura State Nature Park, Protected natural area in Kara-Buura District, Kyrgyzstan
Kara-Buura State Nature Park covers roughly 61,500 hectares across the northern slopes of the Talas Alatoo mountains. The terrain shifts between mid-altitude grasslands and high alpine meadows, each zone supporting different plant and animal communities based on elevation.
The Kyrgyz government established this park in 2005 to expand the nationwide system of protected areas. This decision was part of a broader effort to safeguard the region's natural diversity for future generations.
The park reflects the region's cultural diversity through its multilingual naming conventions. Local communities have long valued these landscapes for traditional pastoralism and seasonal movement patterns.
The park is located around 50 kilometers from Kök-Say and about 120 kilometers from Talas and welcomes visitors for hiking and wildlife watching. Plan for mountain terrain and bring gear suitable for changing weather conditions at higher elevations.
The park shelters ecosystems of the Western Tien-Shan region that remain little-known to most visitors. These specialized habitats support plant and animal species found nowhere else in this part of Asia.
