Dorasan Station is a railway station in Paju, South Korea, sitting just south of the Demilitarized Zone as the last stop on the Gyeongui Line. It has wide platforms, a modern lobby, unused customs facilities, and a small exhibition space.
The original rail line connecting Seoul to Pyongyang was severed during the Korean War, leaving the route dormant for decades. Dorasan Station was rebuilt and opened in 2002 as part of South Korea's Sunshine Policy, an effort to improve ties with the North.
Visiting requires a valid passport, as the station sits within a civilian control zone near the DMZ, and access rules can change without much notice. Getting there is easiest by the DMZ Train from Seoul, which runs directly to the station.
The station has fully built customs and immigration facilities that were prepared for real cross-border passenger traffic, but have never been used for that purpose. A sign on the platform shows the distance to Pyongyang, as if a train could depart at any moment.
