COEX Mall, Underground shopping mall in Gangnam District, South Korea
COEX Mall is an underground shopping complex in Gangnam with hundreds of retail stores, dining options, and entertainment areas connected through multiple corridors. The space includes cultural facilities and recreational attractions alongside the commercial offerings.
The project was initiated in the late 1990s by the Korea International Trade Association as a commercial and cultural center. Its opening set a new approach for underground urban development in Seoul.
The Starfield Library serves as a gathering place where visitors pause from shopping to browse and read. People come here to spend time with books in the middle of the underground complex, making it a quiet refuge within the bustling commercial space.
Access is available through Samseong and Bongeunsa subway stations, plus parking facilities for vehicles. Multiple entrances make it easy to find the right route depending on where you arrive.
The attached aquarium displays marine animals in multiple themed zones not typically seen in this underground setting. The underwater tunnel offers visitors an unusual vantage point to observe sea creatures from below.
