Yeomiji Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in Seogwipo, South Korea
Yeomiji Botanical Garden is a large facility in Seogwipo featuring a major glass greenhouse and expansive outdoor gardens showcasing over 2,300 plant species. The space combines the enclosed climate-controlled structure with open-air planted areas organized into distinct themed sections.
The garden was established in 1989 under Seoul Metropolitan Government management. In 2005 it transferred to private ownership under a development corporation.
The outdoor spaces showcase international gardening through four distinct areas, each presenting Korean, Japanese, Italian, and French horticultural traditions. You can see how each area reflects the typical characteristics of its cultural origin.
The garden is located in the southern part of Jeju and opens daily during daylight hours; plan enough time to explore both the greenhouse and outdoor sections at a leisurely pace. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since you will spend considerable time on your feet.
A tall observation tower rises through the center of the greenhouse and offers views down into all six indoor themed zones and across the surrounding grounds. This elevated vantage point reveals the overall layout and plant diversity in a way you cannot see from ground level.
