Seogwipo

Seogwipo is a city occupying the southern portion of Jeju Island and stretches along a rocky volcanic shoreline. The area holds a population of about 192,000 residents and blends urban zones with natural coastal settings.

The area once formed part of the Tamna kingdom, which traded with mainland Korea and China before being absorbed into the Goryeo Dynasty in 1105. This merger reshaped the political and administrative structure of the island.

Seongeup Folk Village displays houses from the 15th century with traditional hanok architecture, preserving how people lived in earlier times. The village shows everyday crafts and farming methods that locals practiced across generations.

The climate is humid subtropical with warm summers and mild winters, receiving roughly 2,000 millimeters of rainfall annually. Visitors should prepare for damp conditions and pack clothing suitable for frequent showers.

Jeongbang Waterfall stands out because it drops directly into the ocean from a coastal cliff edge. This feature makes it the only waterfall of its kind in Asia with such an unusual location and structure.
