Aqua Planet Jeju, Public aquarium in Seongsan, South Korea.
Aqua Planet Jeju is a public aquarium in Seongsan, on the eastern side of Jeju Island, and one of the largest of its kind in South Korea. It is built around a central tank of considerable size, surrounded by multiple exhibition sections that display marine life from both local waters and distant oceans.
The aquarium opened in 2012 and was the first facility in South Korea built specifically to treat and rehabilitate injured or sick marine animals. Over time it grew beyond its original care mission and became one of the most visited spots on Jeju Island.
The Ocean Arena is a large pool where dolphins perform daily with their trainers in front of seated visitors. These shows draw families from across South Korea and are often the main reason people make the trip to this part of Jeju.
A visit here takes several hours, so arriving early in the day gives you enough time to walk through all the sections without rushing. If you want to watch the shows at the Ocean Arena, it helps to check the posted schedule as soon as you arrive.
Divers regularly enter the main tank during opening hours and swim alongside the fish while visitors watch through the glass. This means that on any given visit you may see a person moving through the water next to rays or sharks at close range.
