Geobukseon bridge, Road bridge in Yeosu, South Korea
Geobukseon Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge stretching across the sea to link the Port of Yeosu with Dolsando island. It carries four traffic lanes above and provides a wide passage beneath for vessels to navigate through.
The bridge opened in 2012 as a key transportation project for Yeosu's world expo that year. It relieved pressure on the earlier Dolsan Bridge from 1985, which had been the sole connection to the island.
The bridge name comes from Korean maritime traditions, reflecting how local history shaped the infrastructure we see today. Walking or driving across it, you experience a link between the port's working past and modern engineering.
The bridge is part of the main road network and carries regular traffic including cars, buses, and trucks. You can access it from both sides, and it has walking and cycling paths if you prefer to cross on foot.
The two tall H-shaped towers are visible from far across the harbor and create a distinctive landmark. They support the entire cable system and allow the structure to remain stable even during strong sea winds.
