Amorepacific Headquarters, Corporate headquarters in Yongsan District, South Korea
Amorepacific Headquarters is an office building with 22 floors above ground and 7 below, organized around a central atrium and inner courtyard. The exterior features glass and aluminum panels punctuated by three substantial hanging gardens that cascade down the facade.
The structure was designed by David Chipperfield Architects and opened in 2018 after eight years of planning and construction. Its creation was part of Seoul's transformation of the Yongsan district into a modern business hub.
The building integrates corporate operations with spaces open to the public, including a museum, library, and auditorium that serve as gathering places for both employees and visitors.
The building uses natural ventilation systems throughout its central atrium design, which helps reduce energy consumption. Visitors can navigate the public areas easily since entrances are clearly marked and the interior layout is straightforward.
The three hanging gardens function as more than decoration, serving as thermal buffers and air quality regulators for the interior spaces. This approach demonstrates how contemporary architecture can merge visual appeal with practical environmental performance.
