Jezzine, Mountain resort town in South Lebanon
Jezzine is a mountain village set at around 1300 meters elevation, surrounded by pine forests, vineyards, and fruit orchards spread across sloping terrain. Waterfalls cascade down the slopes from natural springs, creating a landscape with visible water features throughout the area.
The name comes from Aramaic, referring to a storage place that merchants used while traveling through the mountain region. The settlement developed around these ancient trade routes that connected the area with other parts of Lebanon.
Knife-making has shaped village life for hundreds of years, and visitors can still see craftspeople at work in their small shops. The tradition of creating decorative blades with inlaid patterns remains a point of pride for residents and defines much of what the community is known for.
The village is accessible by car from the surrounding area, though mountain roads can be steep in places. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions at this elevation and bring suitable clothing for cooler temperatures.
A winery here produces the only wines of South Lebanon, taking advantage of the elevation to grow European grape varieties. Visitors can see the vines planted at high altitude and understand how the climate makes this rare farming activity possible in the region.
