Sabaragamuwa Province, Administrative province in central Sri Lanka.
The province extends over 4,968 square kilometers of terrain, containing two districts, Ratnapura and Kegalle, with a population of 1,928,655 residents.
British colonial authorities established Sabaragamuwa Province in 1889, marking a significant restructuring of Sri Lanka's administrative divisions during the late 19th century.
The name originates from the Sabara tribes, who were early hunter-gatherer inhabitants of the region before modern settlement patterns emerged.
Sabaragamuwa University in Belihuloya offers higher education opportunities to students across multiple disciplines since its foundation in 1991.
The province maintains a literacy rate of 94.8 percent while featuring extensive agricultural lands dedicated to tea, rubber, and spice cultivation.
