Galway's Land National Park

Galway's Land is a montane forest reserve in central Sri Lanka featuring marked pathways through varied woodland elevation zones. The area contains a dense network of forest trails with natural passages running through different vegetation types.

The area was placed under protection as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938 and received national park status in 2006. The upgrade reflected efforts to strengthen forest conservation in the mountain regions of Sri Lanka.

The location attracts birdwatchers and ornithologists who come to observe the specialized communities of forest birds. The wooded terrain serves as a gathering point for researchers interested in studying avian behavior and population dynamics in the region.

The park is open daily with straightforward access through the main entrance gate and clearly marked walking routes throughout. Visit during drier months when trails are easier to walk and visibility through the forest is better.

An unusual concentration of rare bird species occurs within a small area, including migratory and resident populations that are typically scattered across larger forest regions. This density makes it a surprising hub for those studying forest birds.
