Pidurangala Rock, Ancient mountain temple near Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

The 199-meter-tall Pidurangala Rock features a combination of natural stone formations and constructed stairs leading to its summit.

King Kasyapa established a Buddhist monastery at Pidurangala Rock before the second century, relocating monks from the nearby Sigiriya complex.

The white temple at the base, Pidurangala Sigiri Rajamaha Viharaya, contains a large brick-reconstructed reclining Buddha within its cave structure.

Visitors must cover shoulders and knees to enter the temple area, and the entrance fee costs 500 LKR, with operating hours from 5 AM to 6 PM.

The summit provides an unobstructed view of Sigiriya Rock and the surrounding valleys, making it a preferred location for sunrise photography.
