Khovd

Khovd Province extends across 85,325 square kilometers of diverse terrain, from steppes to mountains, bordering China in the western region of Mongolia.

The province emerged from the historical Khanate Chowd during the late Qing Dynasty and became an official administrative division after Mongolia's independence in 1921.

The province houses multiple ethnic groups, including Kazakhs, Dsachtschin, Torguud, and Altai-Urianchai, each maintaining distinct territories and traditions within the region.

The regional airport maintains regular flights to Ulaanbaatar through two runways, with one paved strip facilitating year-round transportation connections to the capital.

The province consists of multiple districts called 'Sum', each with a central settlement, creating a network of administrative units across the territory.
