Mörön, Administrative center in northern Mongolia
Mörön is a city in Khövsgöl Province in northern Mongolia, located at the junction of the Delgermörön River and the steppe. It functions as the main administrative center of the region and connects smaller settlements with larger urban areas.
The city emerged from a monastery founded in the early 1800s that once housed a large religious community. Political changes in the 1930s ended this religious establishment and transformed it into a secular administrative center.
The Aimag Museum displays traditional clothing and artifacts from local communities that reflect the region's heritage. Visitors can see how people in this area have lived and worked through their handmade objects and garments.
The airport offers regular flights to the capital Ulaanbaatar for direct connections. A paved road also links the city to the capital, allowing visitors to travel by car if they prefer road access.
Winters here are brutally cold with temperatures that can shock visitors from milder climates. This extreme cold has shaped how people build, dress, and organize their lives in this region.
