Christ the King

Christ the King is a limestone statue located within Jardines del Recuerdo cemetery northwest of Mexico City, depicting Jesus with arms raised skyward. The figure stands atop a tall pedestal and commands views across the surrounding grounds.

Artist David Gutierrez Becerril created this monumental sculpture during the 1970s as a religious landmark. The work received its official inauguration in 1981 and has remained a regional landmark since.

The monument serves as a gathering place for religious prayers and celebrations throughout the year. People visit to observe holidays and spiritual moments in a setting that blends devotion with the surrounding cemetery.

The monument sits just north of central Mexico City and is accessible by public transportation from downtown. Morning visits offer the best lighting and fewer crowds, making photography and viewing more comfortable.

The sculpture ranks as Mexico's second largest monument, surpassed only by the José María Morelos statue on Janitzio Island. This distinction places it among the most towering figural works in the country.
