Ogun State covers 16,762 square kilometers of land with tropical forests in the south and wooded savanna in the northern sections.

The state emerged from the former Western region in 1976, incorporating the territories of previous Abeokuta and Ijebu provinces of Nigeria.

The Egba and Egbado subgroups of the Yoruba people form the main population groups across the state's twenty local government areas.

The state maintains strong transportation links to Lagos through an extensive network of roads and railways, facilitating industrial development.

Metal processing facilities and limestone quarries near Abeokuta supply construction materials to large parts of southern Nigeria.
