Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal
The Hyatt Regency Kathmandu is a five-star hotel on the northeastern edge of the city, set within a large green property with mature trees and gardens. The building has several floors with rooms in different categories, a large outdoor pool, multiple restaurants, a spa, and meeting facilities.
The hotel opened in the early 1990s, at a time when Kathmandu was drawing more international travelers and business visitors. Since then, it has gradually grown its facilities and become one of the most recognized addresses in the city for foreign guests.
The hotel sits a short walk from the Boudhanath Stupa, where Buddhist pilgrims circle the monument daily at sunrise and dusk. Inside the lobby, replicas of temples from the Kathmandu Valley are on display, and incense burns in the afternoons, giving the entrance a distinctly local feel.
The hotel is close to Tribhuvan International Airport, making it a common first or last stop for travelers passing through Kathmandu. The entrance is reached via a long private driveway, and the front desk can help arrange transportation or day trips on request.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel served as an official quarantine facility for travelers arriving in Nepal, which is an unusual role for a luxury property. This kept the hotel operating when many others across the city closed or ran at very limited capacity.
