Jaulian

The Jaulian monastery complex contains a central stupa, twenty-seven peripheral stupas, and fifty-nine small chapels arranged across multiple architectural levels.

Built during the second century CE, this Buddhist monastery served as a center of religious learning until its abandonment in the fifth century due to Hun invasions.

The monastery displays a combination of Buddhist architectural elements with Greek, Persian, and Roman influences, reflecting the cultural exchanges along the Silk Road.

Located 35 kilometers from Rawalpindi and 45 kilometers from Islamabad, the site sits 100 meters above the current village of Jaulian near Khanpur Taxila road.

The monastery contains a statue known as the Healing Buddha with a special opening in its navel where people would place their fingers while praying for cures.
