Gojra, city in Punjab, Pakistan
Gojra is a city in Punjab province in Pakistan that serves as the administrative center of Gojra Tehsil and sits between the Ravi and Chenab rivers. The city spreads across flat, fertile land with fields, markets, factory shops, and small industries where cotton, wheat, and sugarcane are grown and shoes, leather goods, and farm machinery are made.
The British arrived in Gojra in the middle of the 1800s and officially established it as a town in 1896 to support regional trade. A railway built in 1899 connected the city to other places and helped its economy and population grow.
The name Gojra comes from Gujjar brothers or an old word for a cow pasture, reflecting the city's origins. Residents keep Punjabi traditions alive through their clothing, music, and when building homes they often include space for neighbors and a small prayer room, showing strong community bonds.
The city is easily reached by roads and trains connecting to larger cities like Faisalabad and Lahore, with local taxis, buses, and auto-rickshaws for getting around within Gojra. The nearest airport is in Faisalabad, about 50 kilometers away.
The city became an official administrative center with its own municipal committee in 1925 and has since grown steadily as an economic and social hub for surrounding villages. Today it houses multiple schools, hospitals, and shops, showing its importance as a local center.
