University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, university in Punjab, Pakistan
The University of Engineering and Technology Taxila is an engineering school offering nine specialized programs across computer, telecommunications, software, electrical, electronics, civil, industrial, environmental, and mechanical engineering. The 163-acre campus sits approximately 5 kilometers outside the city of Taxila and contains academic buildings, student housing, research laboratories, library facilities, administrative offices, a guest house, post office, and bank services.
The institution was established in 1975 as an engineering college initially dependent on the Lahore university system. In 1993, it gained full independence as a separate university with its own governing authority and academic autonomy.
The university draws its name from its location in a region long known for ancient learning centers. Students experience daily the contrast between contemporary engineering education and the archaeological remains that surround the campus.
The campus has well-maintained pathways connecting all areas and open spaces where visitors can move around comfortably. Daily bus services link the institution to nearby cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Wah Cantt, making access straightforward for students and guests.
The campus sits on land surrounded by ancient archaeological sites including Buddhist monasteries, the Jandial temple, and the ruins of Sirkap city. This unusual setting blends contemporary engineering education with one of South Asia's most significant archaeological regions.
