Świnicka Przełęcz, Mountain saddle in High Tatras, Slovakia.
Seealmsattel is a mountain pass in the High Tatras of Slovakia, situated between the Malá Studená dolina valley and the area around the Skalnaté pleso mountain lake. It sits at 2,190 m (7,185 ft) and serves as a junction where several hiking trails meet before continuing toward the surrounding peaks.
The pass was explored and mapped during the 19th century as mountaineering and organized tourism began to develop in the Tatras. Over time, marked trails were laid out through the area, turning it into a regular stop on the hiking network of the High Tatras.
The mountain communities near Seealmsattel maintain Slovak alpine traditions through regular festivals and gatherings during summer months.
A convenient way to reach the pass is to take the cable car from Tatranská Lomnica to Skalnaté pleso and then hike up from there, which takes about an hour on foot. At this altitude, weather can change fast, so solid boots and warm layers are worth bringing regardless of the season.
The name Seealmsattel is German and translates roughly as the saddle of the alpine pasture by the lake, a reminder that the area was named by German-speaking Carpathian settlers long before the modern hiking routes were established. The lake in question is Skalnaté pleso, which sits just below the pass and is visible from the col on a clear day.
