Mihai Eminescu's statue in Iași

Mihai Eminescu's statue is a 3.35-meter bronze monument set on a 5.20-meter pedestal made of Vratsa stone, flanked by allegorical figures of Philosophy and Poetry. The entire structure forms a cohesive sculptural composition in the city.

Sculptor Ion Schmidt-Faur created this monument, which was unveiled in 1929 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Romanian poet's death. This gesture recognized Eminescu as one of the nation's most significant literary figures.

The two bronze bas-reliefs at the base show scenes from Eminescu's poems Luceafărul and Doina, which stand as central works of Romanian literature. These depictions allow visitors to connect directly with the poet's creative vision.

The monument sits at the start of Carol I Boulevard, directly in front of the Central University Library, making it easy to locate and visit. Its central position allows you to explore it alongside other nearby landmarks in the area.

In 1946, Soviet authorities removed the nationalistic inscription from the poem Doina that was originally carved into the stone during the occupation. This event left visible marks on the monument and reflects the complex political history of the nation.
