Victory Park, Memorial park in Dorogomilovo, Russia
Victory Park is a large memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill in western Moscow with outdoor displays of tanks and aircraft alongside a major central museum. The grounds spread across open lawns, paved walkways, and rows of fountains leading toward a tall slender obelisk.
The site opened in nineteen ninety-five, fifty years after the end of World War II in Europe. Before that, the hill served for centuries as a lookout point on Moscow's western edge.
Poklonnaja comes from an old tradition where travelers would pause on this hill and bow toward the city below. Families and veterans gather along the fountains and long avenues today, especially during May ninth Victory Day celebrations.
The entrance sits right next to Park Pobedy metro station, so you can reach the grounds without changing trains or walking far. Plan several hours to see both the outdoor displays and the museum halls inside.
Park Pobedy metro station lies seventy-three meters (240 feet) underground and is the deepest station in Moscow. The escalator ride down takes about three minutes, longer than at any other stop in the city.
