Kyz-Kule

Kyz-Kule is a medieval castle situated on a hilltop in Bakhchysarai Raion with thick stone walls and several watchtowers. The fortification overlooks the surrounding landscape and displays the typical layout of a strategic defensive position.

The fortress was built during the medieval period and served as a key control point for monitoring trade routes throughout the region. Over the centuries it was used and reinforced by different rulers.

The structure reflects construction methods from multiple periods, showing how different peoples applied their military techniques at this location. Visitors can still see these layers in how the stone walls and towers are arranged today.

Access is via marked paths from the main road, and sturdy footwear is recommended due to uneven terrain. The best time to visit is during the brighter months when the paths are easily accessible and the weather is mild.

The site is registered in the heritage lists of both Ukraine and Russia, reflecting the complex history of this region. This dual registration is a rare feature that documents the overlapping historical claims to the site.
