Mangup Kale Complex Natural Monument

The limestone plateau rises 600 meters above sea level, featuring vertical cliffs that extend between 30 and 70 meters in depth along its perimeter.

The settlement emerged at the end of the third century and developed into a Byzantine fortress during Emperor Justinian I's reign, remaining inhabited until the sixteenth century.

The complex contains 27 Christian rock structures, including temples, burial sites, and monastic facilities, with the Great Basilica serving as its principal religious center.

Access to the plateau requires following a single connecting road or several paths that wind through the gorges from the Karalezka valley.

Natural water streams originate in the upper sections of the rock formation, providing sustainable water sources that supported the ancient settlement's long-term habitation.
