Citadel

The Citadel is a stone fortress built on elevated ground in Crimea with watchtowers and military structures across multiple levels. Defensive walls connect various sections and form the main defensive perimeter of this fortified complex.

The fortress began as a military installation and was rebuilt and expanded over centuries by different powers. Its current form reflects the long sequence of occupations and changes in control that shaped the region.

The fortress shows traces of different ruling periods in how it was built, which you can see in the stones and structures. If you look closely, you notice different building techniques from the various powers that controlled the site.

The grounds are walkable and offer views of the surroundings from the higher levels. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the terrain is uneven with multiple ascents and descents.

The original stonework and medieval construction techniques are still visible in parts of the walls, showing how builders worked centuries ago. These preserved sections reveal how much construction methods differed between the various building phases.
