Бельбецький каньйон

Belbek Canyon is a deep gorge with rock walls that extend for several kilometers and rise over 70 meters in height. The canyon floor narrows to around 300 meters at certain points, creating a dramatic enclosed landscape.

The site received official protected status in 1975, building upon an earlier nature conservation designation from 1969. This recognition honored the gorge's geological and ecological importance for the region.

The canyon draws visitors interested in geology, as its rock walls display different colored layers that tell the story of Earth's past. These visible strata make it easy to observe and understand the region's geological makeup while walking through the gorge.

Access to the gorge can be reached from the nearby villages of Male Sadove and Velike Sadove, with Bakhchysarai serving as the nearest larger town. Sturdy footwear is helpful since the terrain is rocky, and weather conditions should be considered as steep slopes and rock surfaces vary in accessibility depending on the season.

The area is home to a significant grove of ancient yew trees that have been under local protection since 1980. These rare trees make the canyon a special place for nature enthusiasts and those interested in plant life.
