Riyadh Province

Riyadh Province covers 404,240 square kilometers (156,078 square miles) across central Saudi Arabia and includes twenty administrative districts. This area ranges from urban centers to wide desert territories with different patterns of settlement.

This territory gained administrative importance in 1992 when the kingdom expanded its territorial organization from seven to thirteen provinces through royal decree. This restructuring aimed to decentralize governance and improve management of the growing nation.

The region serves as the political heart of the kingdom, where government offices conduct daily operations and international representatives carry out their duties. Visitors see modern office towers standing beside government buildings that shape the administrative life of the country.

Highways connect the different districts while rail links and an international airport provide access to national and regional destinations. Travelers should prepare for wide distances between individual places and consider extreme temperatures depending on the season.

Temperatures here swing between 43 degrees Celsius (109 degrees Fahrenheit) in summer and near freezing in winter, with very little rainfall throughout the year. These climatic contrasts noticeably influence daily life and activities of residents across the seasons.
