Alodia, Medieval kingdom in Sudan
Alodia was a medieval Nubian kingdom in what is now central and southern Sudan.
Its capital was Soba, located near modern-day Khartoum at the confluence of the Blue and White Nile rivers.
The Alodians adopted Christianity around the 6th century, with their form being influenced by Byzantine Christianity.
Today, the archaeological sites of Alodia are important sources for the study of medieval Sudanic Africa.
Alodia was one of the last kingdoms in Africa to convert to Islam.
