The Sudan Natural History Museum contains preserved specimens of reptiles, fish, mammals, scorpions, and birds collected across the region.
The museum, established in 1929, joined the University of Khartoum during World War II and maintained specimens dating back to the mid-19th century.
The museum collections represent Sudanese ethnic groups through traditional clothing, jewelry, household items, and military equipment displays.
The facility suffered severe damage in April 2023 during armed conflicts, resulting in the loss of numerous valuable specimens and collections.
The bird hall exhibits specimens gathered between 1885 and 1945 from both Sudan and South Sudan territories.
