Virvelvinden, Amusement ride at Liseberg, Sweden
Virvelvinden was an amusement ride at Liseberg where passengers sat in rotating cars that moved in a circular pattern around a central axis. The device combined spinning motions in two directions to create an intense riding experience.
The ride was manufactured by Schwarzkopf and opened in May 1969 as a Walzerfahrt model at the park. It operated at the same location for over 50 years until it was shut down in September 2021.
The name Virvelvinden reflects Swedish language traditions, translating to a reference about whirling wind movements that characterize the ride experience.
Visitors needed to be at least 110 centimeters tall to ride, while those under 130 centimeters required an adult companion. These safety requirements ensured the experience was appropriate for all passengers.
The ride could accommodate 36 passengers per cycle and became a landmark that drew generations of visitors to the park. Its long operating history made it a familiar fixture for regular park guests.
