Fairytale Castle, Indoor amusement ride at Liseberg, Sweden
The Fairytale Castle was an indoor ride at Liseberg using 15 suspended gondolas that moved visitors through different storybook scenes set within a castle building. These carriages traveled along a 192-meter track through mostly dark passages, with light only at the boarding and exit areas.
The ride opened in 1968 under the name Peter Pan and underwent name changes over the years. It was called Vår Lilla Värld between 1981 and 1984 before receiving its final name in 1985.
The ride displayed mechanical figures acting out classic fairy tales such as Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella as visitors passed through. These scenes were the main focus of the slow journey inside the castle.
The gondolas moved at a very slow pace, allowing visitors to see and enjoy the scenes clearly without rushing. Since the ride was mostly in darkness, it takes a moment for eyes to adjust to the low light when entering.
Three open arches on the third floor provided views of the courtyard and the neighboring Dragon Boats ride outside. These windows gave riders a rare glimpse of the world beyond the dark castle walls.
