Ko Panyi, village in Ko Panyi subdistrict, Mueang Phang Nga district, Phang Nga province, Thailand

Ko Panyi is a stilt village built on an island in southern Thailand, where houses rise above the water on wooden structures. The settlement features narrow walkways, moored fishing boats, and a mosque at its center that serves as a gathering point.

The village was founded centuries ago by Muslim fishing families who settled on this island seeking shelter and access to fishing grounds. Over time, the community developed its own traditions and became a stable settlement that endures today.

The community here follows Muslim traditions and maintains its identity through fishing practices and local crafts passed down over generations. Walking through the wooden boardwalks, you observe how residents organize their daily life around the water and their work with nets and boats.

Access to the village is mainly by boat from nearby ports, as it sits entirely surrounded by water. The pathways are narrow wooden boardwalks, so sturdy footwear and careful footing are necessary when exploring.

The village appears in the 1974 James Bond film 'The Man with the Golden Gun,' a detail that brought it international attention and made it a destination for film enthusiasts. Today, visitors often look for the locations where specific scenes were filmed while exploring the island.
