Gaplaňgyr Nature Reserve, Nature reserve at the southern spur of Ustyurt Plateau, Turkmenistan.

The Gaplaňgyr Nature Reserve encompasses 2,822 square kilometers of protected terrain along the borders of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in northern Turkmenistan.

The establishment of Gaplaňgyr Nature Reserve in 1979 marked a significant step in Turkmenistan's environmental conservation program, leading to its UNESCO recognition in 2023.

The reserve demonstrates Turkmenistan's dedication to protecting natural heritage through scientific research and environmental education programs for local communities.

Access to the reserve requires special permits, with guided tours available for visitors interested in observing the native wildlife and plant species.

The reserve harbors 26 mammal species, 147 bird species, and 918 plant varieties, including the Central Asian gazelle and rare Turkmen tulip.
