Itchan Kala north gate, City gate in Khiva, Uzbekistan.

The Itchan Kala north gate is an entrance to the walled inner city of Khiva and stands about 13.5 meters (44 feet) tall. It is built from brick and displays decorative elements typical of Central Asian architecture.

The gate dates from the Silk Road period, when merchants and caravans passed through this entrance to reach the fortified city. It served as a vital passage for trade in the region.

The gate is known locally as Bogcha Darvoza and shows how Central Asian builders developed their construction methods over centuries. You can see the craftsmanship that went into protecting the city through its architectural details.

The gate provides good access to Zargarlar Street and serves as a natural starting point for exploring the walled city. Keep in mind that the area has cobblestone streets, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

The gate is part of an extensive defensive system with multiple fortified entrances and walls protecting the entire walled inner city. This system was carefully designed to defend the city from multiple directions.
