Turkish company Polimeks completed the construction in 2008 as part of a national initiative to modernize the capital city with grand public installations.
The fountain design represents Oguz Khan and his six sons, who symbolize natural elements including the sun, moon, stars, heaven, mountains, and sea.

The installation holds two Guinness World Records for its size and for containing the highest number of fountain pools in a single public location.
