Archaeological site of Carthage, Archaeological site in Carthage, Tunisia.

The archaeological complex spans 600 hectares across the Gulf of Tunis, containing ancient Punic ports, Roman villas, and monumental thermal baths.

The Phoenicians established Carthage in the 9th century BC, which developed into a Mediterranean power until Romans destroyed it in 146 BC.

The site preserves architectural elements from multiple civilizations, including Phoenician burial grounds, Roman amphitheaters, and Byzantine religious structures.

The archaeological area includes eight primary zones with separate entrances, allowing visitors to explore different sections throughout multiple days.

The ancient harbors retain their exact circular and rectangular shapes, demonstrating advanced engineering capabilities of Carthaginian naval architects.
