Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium, association football stadium in the Kasımpaşa neighbourhood of Istanbul, Turkey
The Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium is a football venue in the Kasımpaşa area of Istanbul that holds around 14,000 spectators. The pitch measures approximately 104 meters long by 68 meters (223 ft) wide and is surrounded by seating sections, some of which are covered for protection from weather.
The stadium was constructed in 2004 and 2005, opening to the public in 2005 on the site of a former athletics ground. In 2010, it underwent renovation where the running track was removed and side stands were added to make the space more suitable for football matches.
The stadium is named after Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who grew up in the Kasımpaşa neighborhood and played football himself. This connection makes the venue meaningful to locals, who see it as a symbol linking their community to both the sport and their shared history.
The stadium is about a 10-minute walk from Sishane metro station on the green line M2, which connects well to other parts of the city. There are wheelchair-accessible areas, partially covered sections, and small shops selling drinks and snacks throughout the venue.
From the street above the stadium, spectators can sometimes watch matches, creating an open and informal viewing experience. This natural vantage point allows passersby to spontaneously catch parts of games without needing formal entry, adding to the local character of the place.
