National University of Kaohsiung, National university in Nanzih District, Taiwan.
National University of Kaohsiung is a public institution in Nanzih District that offers programs across humanities, law, management, science, and engineering through five colleges. The campus spreads over several buildings with research centers, libraries, and learning spaces for enrolled students.
Founded in February 2000, this institution became the first national university opened in Taiwan during the new millennium. Since then it has grown steadily and attracts students from across Southeast Asia.
Each year the campus hosts a Southeast Asian festival where students from neighboring countries share their dishes and customs. Visitors on those days can get a sense of life across the region and sample traditional foods prepared by the international community.
The grounds along Kaohsiung University Road remain open to the public since no walls mark the edge of the campus. Those wishing to use indoor facilities should note that many areas require student identification for entry.
The campus deliberately avoids boundary walls and flows directly into the surrounding streets, allowing neighbors to use the grounds as part of their neighborhood. A water park on the university site hosts around 60 fish species that students and visitors can observe.
