The 1999 Jiji earthquake, also known as the 921 earthquake, was a devastating seismic event that occurred in Jiji, Nantou, Taiwan.
Occurring on September 21, 1999, it is considered Taiwan's second deadliest earthquake in recorded history.
This earthquake left a significant impact on Taiwanese society and led to major changes in seismic and building regulations.
Taiwan has since erected the 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan to commemorate the event and promote earthquake education.
Despite lasting only 102 seconds, it measured 7.3 on the Richter Scale and resulted in approximately 2,415 deaths.
