Wushi Harbor, Commercial fishing port in Toucheng, Taiwan.
Wushi Harbor is a fishing port on the eastern coast of Yilan County in Toucheng, Taiwan, with a visitor center, a seafood market, and a leisure yacht wharf alongside working fishing docks. The port faces the Pacific Ocean and sits at the edge of the town, making it easy to spot from the surrounding roads.
The harbor was founded in 1826 and became the main trading gateway for the Lanyang region during the Qing Dynasty. Sedimentation gradually reduced its role in trade, and it eventually became the fishing port it is today.
At the harbor, visitors can buy fresh seafood directly from local fishermen at the sales center as boats return with their daily catch. This gives a clear sense of how fishing remains central to everyday life in Toucheng.
The harbor is a short walk or taxi ride from Toucheng train station and sits at the edge of town, so it is easy to find on foot. Going in the early morning gives the best chance to see fishing boats returning and the market at its busiest.
The name Wushi comes from a large black coral reef rock that once served as a natural landmark for sailors approaching the coast. Just next to the port, a wetland conservation zone shelters rare birds and plants that most visitors walk past without noticing.
