Railway Department Park

Railway Department Park is a history museum in Taipei featuring multiple buildings that document Taiwan's railway development through exhibits, models, and artifacts. The site displays workshops, storage facilities, and administrative structures that reveal how the railway operated and expanded over time.

The site started in 1884 as a facility for military weapon production but became the Taipei Railway Factory under Japanese rule in 1900. This shift marked Taiwan's transition toward modern railway infrastructure.

The railway system shaped how people and goods moved across Taiwan, and visitors can see how transportation became central to daily life on the island. The exhibits reveal the connections between trains and the communities they served.

The museum sits at the intersection of Zhongxiao West Road and Yanping North Road near Taipei Station, making it easy to reach by public transport. Plan to spend several hours exploring the multiple buildings and their extensive collections throughout the day.

The site preserves an octagonal washroom from 1919 that reveals how railway workers managed their daily routines at the facility. A wartime command center and a canteen built from salvaged materials offer insights into life around the railway operations.
