Charax, Roman military settlement
Charax is an archaeological site in Gaspra that now exists only as ruins scattered across a hillside. The remains reveal foundations and stone fragments from an ancient settlement, though much has been lost over time.
The site dates from ancient times and served as a fortified settlement in a strategic coastal location. Over the centuries it was destroyed and gradually abandoned.
The site sits on a hillside and requires some climbing to view the remains properly. The ground can be slippery and uneven, so sturdy footwear is advisable.
