Holosiiv Raion, Administrative district in southwestern Kyiv, Ukraine.
Holosiiv is an administrative district in southwestern Kyiv that combines residential neighborhoods, schools and universities, and large forest areas. The district spreads across a sizeable territory with diverse urban and natural environments.
The district was created during a 2001 administrative reform of Kyiv, replacing the former Moscow District that existed since 1921. This reorganization was part of efforts to restructure the city's administrative divisions.
The National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Pyrohiv displays traditional Ukrainian buildings and crafts across outdoor exhibition areas where visitors can experience how people once lived. The museum helps people understand rural life from different regions of Ukraine through preserved structures and objects.
The district connects to central Kyiv through multiple metro stations, including Lybidska, Demiivska, and Holosiivska on the blue metro line. This public transportation access makes it easy to reach different parts of the district.
The area houses the Main Astronomical Observatory of Ukraine, where researchers study the sky with advanced telescopes and equipment. This research facility plays an important role in the country's scientific work and education.
