Dormition Church

The Dormition Church is an Eastern Orthodox church in Lviv's Old Town rising 66 meters with white limestone walls. The structure spans three stories and is topped by Renaissance-style domes positioned near Ruska Street.

Construction of the stone building began in 1591 following wooden predecessors that had burned, and was completed in 1629 with support from the Orthodox Brotherhood. The structure has endured through centuries of political shifts while maintaining its role in the community.

The church serves the local Orthodox community with regular services and religious celebrations throughout the year. You can observe how traditional practices remain active and shape the rhythm of the neighborhood.

You can enter through the main entrance on Ruska Street on most days, with longer hours during religious observances and festivals. It's best to visit during quieter periods to explore the interior without crowds.

The adjacent Korniakt Tower was funded by Greek merchant Constantine Corniaktos and blends Eastern and Western architectural styles. The tower was originally a separate structure before becoming part of the church complex over time.
