Amber Valley, Administrative district in Derbyshire, England.
Amber Valley is an administrative district in Derbyshire that spreads north of Derby across around 102 square miles (264 square kilometers). The area mixes industrial zones in its eastern parts with farmland and open spaces to the west.
The district came into being in 1974 when five former districts merged under the Local Government Act. It gained borough status in 1989, establishing Ripley as its administrative center.
Four market towns—Alfreton, Belper, Heanor, and Ripley—form the social heart of the district, each with its own town center where locals shop and gather. These places keep their role as community hubs, with traditional high streets where everyday life unfolds.
The administrative center is located at Ripley Town Hall, a historic building from 1881 where council activities take place. The four market towns serve as good starting points for exploring the area, each offering different shops and local services.
Near Ripley in the Codnor Gate Business Park stands a renowned dollhouse retailer known worldwide for its extensive collection of miniature rooms and furnishings. This specialized shop draws collectors and enthusiasts from far and wide who appreciate the intricate craftsmanship involved.
