The Big One, Steel roller coaster at Pleasure Beach, Blackpool, England
The Big One is a steel roller coaster at Pleasure Beach in Blackpool on the English coast. The track runs for more than one and a half kilometers along the Lancashire shore, passing through steep drops and turns.
The ride opened in May 1994 and held the record at that time for the tallest and steepest roller coaster worldwide. In the following years, other parks built similar constructions that surpassed these marks.
The name reflects the scale and ambition of the project built in the late 20th century. Visitors hear the sound of trains from the promenade before they reach the attraction.
Three trains with five cars each transport riders, with a minimum height requirement of 132 centimeters (52 inches). The ride lasts a few minutes and ends at the same point where it started.
The first descent drops riders at a 65-degree angle from a height of 65 meters (213 feet). Forces acting on the body reach up to three and a half times normal gravity during this section.
