Crater Lake National Park, National park in southern Oregon, United States.

Crater Lake National Park is a protected area in the southern Cascades of Oregon, centered on a water-filled caldera. Cliffs of dark rock surround the basin and rise up to 2000 feet (610 m) above the water level, while the water itself displays a deep blue color.

Mount Mazama erupted around 7700 years ago, leaving a deep depression that filled with precipitation. The park was officially designated in 1902 and has protected the landscape since then.

For Klamath communities in the area, this place carries deeper meaning that appears in oral accounts and spiritual gatherings. Visitors notice this connection through signs along the trails and at the visitor center.

The Cleetwood Cove Trail is the only path down to the lake shore, covering a 700-foot (210 m) descent over roughly 1.1 miles (1.8 km). The downward walk typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, with the return climb taking longer due to the elevation gain.

No river flows in or out of the lake, so the water comes exclusively from rain and snow. This closed supply keeps the water remarkably clear and pure.
