Burlington County, County administrative area in New Jersey, United States
Burlington County is an administrative area in southern New Jersey that stretches from the Delaware River eastward to the Pine Barrens wilderness. The territory includes both rural townships and suburban communities with gently rolling hills and wide river valleys.
The administrative division formed in 1694 through the consolidation of smaller territories under English colonial rule. The name derives from the English coastal town of Bridlington in Yorkshire.
The Burlington County Library, founded in 1921, stands as the first county library system in New Jersey, operating multiple branches throughout the region.
The region is accessible via several highways and local roads, with many towns offering public parks and outdoor spaces. Mount Holly serves as the administrative center with courthouse facilities and government offices.
The flat coastal plain shows little elevation change and receives moderate snowfall in winter months. The eastern portions border the expansive Pine Barrens forest zone with sandy soil and dense stands of pine trees.
